When organizing your bathroom, it’s important to make the most of the space you have. Though that seems like an obvious statement, most people don’t know what that means or how to do it. They think their bathroom isn’t big enough or their closets are too small, but the truth is that everything can be rearranged and transformed to give more room for better storage. The first step in organizing and creating space is always to sort and purge. When you take the time to do this, you will probably find that you aren’t using at least 30-40% of what you own. Donating or trashing those unused items will give you the space you need.

Once you’ve purged, you are left only with the items you actually use. You’ll want to make sure the items you use the most are the most easily accessible to you. Using clear stackable bins and/or drawers under the sink allows you to use that empty vertical space to create more room for your products. These come in many shapes and sizes so you can find what fits best in your space and around any piping. Make sure you label the bins/drawers so it’s easy for you to quickly find exactly what you are looking for. If you have a pedestal sink in your bathroom, there are opaque stackable drawers that will give you the storage space of a cabinet and also maintain a clean, organized look for you. You can find some of my favorites at The Container Store.

Also, the shelving in linen closets can sometimes be tricky. Adjusting the shelving to better fit what the shelves are holding can help create more room in a space that currently seems too small. Using labeled opaque bins in a closet helps give that neat, clean look for you and still keeps everything easily accessible.

Use baskets where you can for additional storage! You can use them to store toilet paper and towels if you are limited on linen closet space and they look great in most areas. They can be used in open shelving, on the floor or under cabinets. A basket of toilet paper on the floor can look really cute if you don’t have room elsewhere. Or you might look at a toilet paper stand with reserve for storing your additional rolls. This will help clear up some space in your closet or cabinet and get rid of that irritating ripped Charmin packaging.

And finally, apothecary jars and trays can make a huge difference in the look of your bathroom. We all have those products that are used daily and sit on our counter for easy access. Condensing those to a decorative tray or jars for display will keep your bathroom from looking too busy or cluttered. This solution can help get rid of bulky packaging, such as q-tip boxes and cotton pads, and also make your bathroom more visually appealing.
