What does a professional organizer do?
A professional organizer helps declutter and organize any space in your home while helping create a system for easily maintaining the space. Your organizer will help you sort through all items and will ask questions to help with the purging process. Your organizer will then suggest the best storage solutions for you and your space and will organize while grouping and storing similar items together, creating a specific place for everything.
Why should I hire a professional organizer?
Hiring a professional organizer takes the work out of any project for you and saves you time, money and energy. When you have a busy schedule managing work, life, and/or family, you often lack the time to fully devote to decluttering your home. Hiring a professional organizer takes that off your plate while giving you the benefit of a less stressful home and the joy of a clutter-free space. Hiring a professional organizer to organize the areas you don’t have time to do will be a game-changer for your home life!
How involved do I need to be in the process?
You will be needed for the initial purging process to make sure your organizer knows what to donate or discard and what to keep. After that, you can choose how involved you’d like to be! You can walk through the whole process step-by-step, or your organizer can take it from there. You will still need to be accessible for questions along the way to be sure that the systems being put in place are the perfect solution and functionality for you.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare before my organizer arrives?
No! You don’t have to do a thing. Your organizer can help you sort through and purge when they arrive, which is the very first step. If you already know some things you’d like to get rid of, you can do that in advance if you’d like, though it is not required.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my project?
Depending on the size of the project and how you’d like to schedule it, your organizer can typically complete it within 2-3 weeks. If you need your project completed in less time, contact your organizer right away to see if that is possible.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
We ask that you cancel your appointment at least 48 hours in advance. This allows time for your organizer to schedule someone else in your place. Keep in mind that rescheduling your appointment may delay the completion of your project by two weeks or longer, depending on your and your organizer’s schedule.
What if I feel embarrassed about my mess?
Don’t be! We hear this often and want you to know that professional organizers do not judge you or your home. Decluttering and organizing any space can be stressful and overwhelming, sometimes to the point of overwhelm avoidance. We understand this and it is why we do what we do. We are here to support you and are excited to be able to help with the process of rediscovering joy in your home and finding lasting solutions for you and your family.
What is the process? What should I expect?
You will have a 30-minute consultation to discuss your project, concerns, goals, and vision. After the initial consultation, you will be provided with a quote for your project. If you accept the quote, an appointment will be scheduled for completing your project. If your project will take multiple days to complete, you may schedule all appointments at once or as each day is worked.
Once the project is complete, your organizer will discuss tips to maintain and will also take any trash and small donation items with them, up to one car load. This leaves you with nothing left to do except enjoy your newly organized space and the joy it brings you.
Will my organizer clean the space as well?
Your organizer will dust, wipe surfaces and straighten as they work on your project. Deep cleaning, dirt and grime, etc. may be included in the project for a higher rate. This will be discussed and agreed upon before any work is completed.
How long will it take to organize my space?
This will depend on many variables such as how many spaces your project includes, how involved the work is, how much you have to sort through during the purging process, how many organizers will work on your project, and how available you are for decision-making and scheduling. Keep in mind that all projects are different. Until your organizer sees and discusses your project with you, it’s difficult to give an accurate timeline. Your organizer will always aim to get your project completed as quickly as possible without cutting any corners.
What are the costs involved?
Your organizer charges an hourly or daily rate for services with a three-hour minimum. You will discuss your project with your organizer to get a better idea of how many hours should be needed to know which package is right for you.
For holiday services, your organizer may charge by the project instead of an hourly or daily rate. However, that will be discussed and agreed upon before any work is started.
Who shops for any products needed?
Your organizer can shop for the items needed for your project. Typically, that is easier since you might not have the time or aren’t sure which products to purchase. A shopping rate will be charged for time spent shopping. However, if you prefer to purchase the products yourself, your organizer can discuss which items are needed and where to buy them.
Can you use the products I already have or do I have to buy new products?
Your organizer will always try to use what you already have if it fits the space and works properly with the system put in place for maintaining. If new products do need to be purchased, your organizer will discuss with you prior to purchasing to ensure they are staying within your budget.
Will my organizer train me on how to maintain after they leave?
Your organizer’s services go beyond the physical organization. The goal is to create a system that works for you and your family long after the project is complete. Your organizer will discuss the system for maintaining and any tips to set you up for total success.
Do you offer maintenance services?
Maintenance services are offered at a discounted rate and can be purchased to refresh your spaces periodically. Virtual services are also available for purchase to give you tips, advice, and reminders if you need a little push along the way.
Do you offer moving services?
Yes! Your organizer can help you sort, purge, and pack for a move so you aren’t moving anything you know you won’t keep. This will save you time and money along the way. Your organizer can also unpack and organize for you after a move to get you settled in your new home. You won’t have to open a single box! Sit back and enjoy your new organized home without lifting a finger!
How is virtual organizing different from hands-on organizing?
Virtual organizing is for you if you’d rather do the work yourself, but need help on where to start or ideas to get you motivated. Your virtual organizer will help you find clarity and focus on what needs to be done and what is priority. They will give you a written plan of action to complete your project and will cheer you on along the way. This is different from hands-on projects because your organizer doesn’t come to your home to do the work for you, but still gives you the ideas and guidance you need, as well as product recommendations and tips on how to maintain. Also, if you purchase a virtual package, you will have access to your organizer by email for 30 days after the completion of your project for additional support. Some of the packages also have bonus phone calls after completion to use at a time of your choosing…and you can bring a friend!
What area do you service? Can you travel outside of that area?
Joyful Dwelling services the Greater Chattanooga and North Georgia areas. Your organizer can travel to the surrounding areas for a travel fee.
